Thanks for the great link! What a great way to start the new year.
I reread an excellent book, Experiments Never Fail by Dale Dauten, over the Christmas break. After Max Elmore, the main character, recounts the stories of two successful individuals, he notes what they "didn't have The Big Dream; instead they had The Useful Dream — to be better." Max goes on:
"OK, let's assume you are an ambitious corporate empoyee. Compare for a minute the effect of these two dream: One, I want to be President; Two, I want to be better this year than last.
The first is likely to make you petty and defensive, a perennial member of the Hindsight Committee, obsessed with your Who-Gets-Credit Ratings. But if you have the goal of being better, you will be forced to take risks, to experiment, to seek help and offer credit."
My goal for 2007 is to be better in 2007 than 2006.
